Common Symptoms of Dysfunction

If you recognize one or more of the problems on this list, we can provide the Executive Coaching, 360-degree Feedback, and Training Seminars needed to repair the dysfunction.

  • Either/or, black or white thinking; oversights and irrational decisions.
  • Sense of superiority or entitlement.
  • Micro-managment and need for authoritarian control.
  • Excessive blame and failure to accept personal responsibility.
  • Unethical behavior.
  • Resistance to constructive criticism.
  • Refusal to admit mistakes.
  • Difficulty managing frustration, irritation, and anger.
  • Avoidance or denial of negative feelings.
  • More attention is paid to competing with coworkers than competitors or meeting customers needs.
  • Focus on the future instead of the present.
  • Workaholic who is indifferent to their work.
  • One-way interest in others — limited to what they can do for you.

Common Traits of High-Functioning

  • New attitudes and behavior — direct, honest, trusting, open to influence and change, eager to improve, and committed to the success of everyone concerned. Positive mental attitude is goal-oriented ("Begin with the end in mind"), views problems as opportunities to learn, and is dedicated to the spirit of continual improvement (kaizen).
  • Motivation — Profit is only the appearance of success. Motivation must include the pursuit of excellence in quality and service at all levels; development of a fulfilling and rewarding work environment; and opportunities to enjoy the sense of personal pride and accomplishment in a job well-done.
  • Empowerment — Delegating authority and autonomy as well as responsibility to those closest to product success and customers. Driving power down creates upward growth. Leadership begins with, “How can I help you?”
  • Recognition — both financial and psychological, individual and teams that contribute to success.
  • Ethics — Clear expectations consistently supported and enforced.
  • Communication — Clear performance goals and job descriptions.
  • Diversity — at all levels: race, age, gender, ethnicity, skill sets, points of view, etc.
